UAF drops CCHA opener; Wuthrich, Summerhays spur Notre Dame

UAF jumped out to a two-goal lead and led after one period, but fell in its CCHA opener tonight, losing 6-3 at No. 18-ranked Ferris State.

Kaare Odegard and Colton Beck scored early goals for the Nanooks, and Andy Taranto's first goal of the season gave UAF a 3-2 lead after one period. But Ferris rallied for the win. UAF goaltender Steve Thompson of Anchorage stopped 26 shots and UAF outshot Ferris, 43-32.

In other CCHA action, Austin Wuthrich of Anchorage scored one goal and assisted on another to earn first star of the game in No. 9-ranked Notre Dame's 5-2 win at No. 16-ranked Northern Michigan. Irish goaltender Steve Summerhays of Anchorage stopped 22 shots.
