'Athlete' rounds up 'Rattler'

Tim Fields, a 164-pounder from Noorvik, defanged Eti "The Red-Fanged Rattler" Sevetusiuele in the main event of this week's Thursday Night at the Fights at the Egan Center.

Fields, a 22-year-old nicknamed "The Athlete," took a three-round decision over Sevetusiuele, 26, who weighed in at 168 pounds.

In a bout between 19-year-old siblings, Kayl Jamal outlasted Caine Spydar Jamal in the three-round Twin Brothers Grudge Match.

VOLLEYBALL

Grace 3, Wasilla 0

The Grace Christian volleyball team wrapped up an undefeated regular season Thursday by breezing past Wasilla in three sets on Senior Night at Grace.

Senior Nicole Weisenfelder led the Grizzlies with nine kills, nine assists and seven digs in the 25-21, 25-16, 25-18 nonconference win.

Heather Green added eight kills and seven digs and Kinley Hickok served five aces to help Grace finish the regular season with a 14-0 record. The Grizzlies split a pair of matches with Mt. Edgecumbe earlier this season in Sitka, but those were endowment matches, which don't count on a team's record.

Soldotna 3, Ketchikan 0

Kaillee Skjold racked up 12 kills, eight blocks and eight digs Friday to fuel Soldotna's 25-18, 25-14, 25-18 volleyball victory over visiting Ketchikan.

Natalie Kress contributed 23 digs, Julie Litchfield added nine digs and nine assists, Katelynn Kerkvleit had six blocks and six kills and Heidi Westerman handed out 15 assists for the Stars.

Soldotna is 13-2 overall and 8-1 conference going into Saturday's 2:30 p.m. regular-season finale at Kenai.

Lekander advances in men's singles

Reed Lekander beat Jack Lewis in straight sets Thursday in men's open singles play at the Birch Horton Bittner and Cherot state tennis tournament at the Alaska Club North. Lekander won the match 6-4, 6-4.
