Moderate aurora displays forecast over Alaska for Sunday night

Published: October 28, 2012

Heads-up: The combination of clear skies over much of Southcentral Alaska and a forecast for "moderate" aurora activity may make it worth your while to check skies to the north tonight.

According to the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, "moderate displays will be visible overhead from Barrow to as far south as Talkeetna and visible low on the horizon as far south as Bethel, Soldotna and southeast Alaska."

Skies are expected to be mostly clear over Anchorage, the Kenai Peninsula and the Matanuska and Susitna valleys tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
