Anchorage — This summer, F Magazine solicited submissions for F-Action, a music video competition showcasing Alaska-based filmmakers and musicians. The local arts and culture magazine then selected the best entries and is hosting a screening of each at Out North on Saturday.
The videos feature music by Kizzy, Mat & Day Vids, Thera, Playboy Spaceman, Caressa Starshine, Kumpas (featuring violinist Bryson Andres and hip-hop artist Samoan Sam) and David Reynolds. Awards will be presented for the best video, plus two runners-up, three honorable mentions and the F-Bomb Award, which F Magazine editor Teeka Ballas describes as something of a personal choice.
"(I)t's that award to an entrant that the judges didn't choose, but there's something I've found particularly special or noteworthy about it - the editor's choice, so to speak," Ballas explained in an email. "Sometimes it's because it's an overlooked brilliance. And sometimes it's not so brilliant."
Before the screenings will be performances by DJ Jacob Mattie, Caressa Starshine and Seth Boyer, each performing along with silent films (lineup subject to change).
The F-Action Statewide Music Video Competition Awards take place 8-10 p.m. Saturday at Out North, with beer provided by Midnight Sun Brewing and wine from Crush Wine Bistro, $5.
Stream the video for "We Were a Housefire" by Thera, one of the F-Action competition finalists.
