Letter: Veteran supports Wielechowski

Published: October 31, 2012

As a disabled veteran, I appreciate elected officials who recognize the sacrifices made by those who serve in the Armed Forces. Sen. Bill Wielechowski is such a person.

For the past six years, he has co-chaired Alaska’s Joint Armed Services Committee. In this role, he has fought hard to support members of the military and their families. He has sponsored legislation to protect military health care benefits and pensions, advocated for the right to take leave when your loved one visits from a combat zone, and championed tax cuts for businesses that hire veterans. He has also fought to protect our bases from closure and to ensure that Alaskans deployed out of state can receive their PFDs no matter how long they serve.

I have learned over the years that you can count on Bill to support the military in Alaska. He is there for veterans and active duty personnel, ready to lend a hand to those who’ve defended us. I wholeheartedly support his re-election.
