Lake Soo 4, UAF 2 (Plus, one college note, one pro note)

Posted on November 3, 2012

This time, a great performance by Lake Superior State goaltender Kevin Murdock didn't go to waste -- he stopped 48 shots Saturday night to propel the Lakers to a 4-2 CCHA victory over host UAF.

Two goals from UAF's Andy Taranto late in the third period cut Lake Superior's lead to 3-2, but the Lakers added an empty-net strike and a series split.

On the ECHL front -- and speaking of Fairbanks -- Hunter Bishop of Fairbanks had one goal and one assist for the South Carolina Stingrays in a 3-0 win over Orlando. Also, South Carolina got an assist out of former Nanooks captain Kevin Petovello. South Carolina is coached by former UAA skater Spencer Carbery and includes former UAA defenseman Luka Vidmar. Orlando includes former Alaska Aces Derick Martin and Ryan Cruthers, so no shortage of Alaska connections in that game.

On the women's college front, Alev Kelter of Eagle River bagged one goal and one assist for Wisconsin in a 5-0 win over Minnesota State-Mankato. That gives here 6-2--8 and +7 totals in 12 games this season.
