Anchorage, Alaska – Nov. 13, 2012 –Need to know the name of the boat cruising Portage Lake? Not sure how many bird species are native to Anchorage? You might want to ask Brice Wilbanks of Goldenview Middle School. He won the 2012 Big Wild Life™ Trivia Contest and a grand prize package that includes a grey whale watching trip for two in Kenai Fjords National Park.

The annual contest took place at the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center on Nov. 13, 2012 and tested seventh graders from across the city on Anchorage’s geography, history and attractions, as well as the local economic impacts and benefits of the visitor industry.  That is not the only learning fostered by the event, however. Since 1992, students in the School Business Partnership class at Central Middle School have done all the behind-the-scenes work, booking the Egan Center, planning the event, serving as timekeepers and even donning the Visit Anchorage critter costumes.
