UAF dumps No. 9 Western Michigan, 6-1, in Fairbanks

Posted on November 16, 2012

Big home-ice win tonight for the UAF Nanooks -- they dispatched No. 9-ranked Western Michigan, 6-1, in a CCHA game at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks.

The unranked Nanooks (6-3-2, 4-2-1 CCHA) moved into a second-place tie in the 11-team league behind a three-point night from freshman Nolan Huysmans, who scored the first two goals of his college career.

Also scoring were Andy Taranto, Kaare Odegard, Chad Gehon and Jarret Granberg. The Nanooks outshot the Broncos, 32-17, and reigning CCHA Goaltender of the Week John Keeney stopped 16 shots for the win.

UAF opened up a 3-1 lead in the second period, then used goals from Gehon and Huysmans 13 seconds apart in the opening 36 seconds of the third period to blow open the game.

The Nanooks are 4-1-1 in their last six games.
