UAA gets a recruit from BCHL (Plus, former Seawolf Scheid commits to Penn State)

Posted on November 19, 2012

UAA has secured a commitment for next season from a goal-scoring forward in the British Columbia Hockey League.

Chris Heisenberg's excellent recruiting site and and collegecommitments.com both report the Seawolves in the fall will be joined by Brent Baltus of the Trail Smoke Eaters, who is currently tied for second on that circuit in goals and is tied for sixth in points.

Baltus, 20, a 6-foot-1, 185-pounder from Nanaimo, B.C., owns 16-12--28 totals in 25 games this season. A year ago, he went 14-16--30 in 60 games.

In other recruiting news, center Eric Scheid, who left UAA last spring after his freshman season, has committed to play at Penn State next fall. Scheid, 20, who went 6-8--14 in 28 games for the Seawolves last season, owns 7-7--14 totals in 13 games for the Lincoln Stars of the U.S. Hockey League.

Scheid, who at Penn State joins former Seawolves forward Justin Kirchhevel and forward Casey Bailey of Anchorage, leads the USHL in plus-minus at +15. At Penn State, he'll play for head coach Guy Gadowsky, the former UAF bench boss.
