Notes (Sinz commits; Markowitz on move; some former UAF dudes, etc.)

Posted on November 20, 2012

According to Chris Heisenberg's excellent recruiting site, defenseman Bryan Sinz of Anchorage, who is playing in the British Columbia Hockey League, has committed to Clarkson University for next season.

Sinz this season is playing for the Penticton Vees and owns 1-6--7 totals in 23 games. He's 20, and a 6-foot-1, 215-pounder. Bryan's older brother, Nathan, is a senior at Colgate.

In other pucks news, former Alaska Aces defenseman Danny Markowitz has agreed to a six-week trial -- guess that's the Brit version of a tryout -- with the Dundee Stars of the Great Britain-based Elite Ice Hockey League. Best of luck to Danny -- good guy.

ECHL news is out there about several former UAF skates. South Carolina has released former Nanooks captain Kevin Petovello, who was in training camp with the Aces last season; Idaho, which Alaska plays Wednesday night on the road, has released former Nanook forward Ron Meyers; and Reading traded former Nanook forward Carlo Finucci to Evansville. Reading signed Finucci after Las Vegas released him. He never played a game for Reading and played just one regular-season game for Vegas, so maybe a move to Evansville will get him some games.
