Letter: Want to secede? First, vote

Published: November 24, 2012

Those folks who are talking of seceding from the union because they don’t like the direction the country is heading should first try voting. Voting is an underrated solution to citizen dissatisfaction with government.

A majority of voters seem to like the current direction. The problem is that a majority of registered voters didn’t vote on Nov. 6, and this is what you get. As Alaskans, we got what we wanted in our state Legislature but were disappointed with the presidential outcome.

Those who talk of seceding from the union should all get together on some big island and try starting their own country to get a taste of what it would be like. Otherwise, wait until 2016.
