Letter: Secessionist talk nothing but childish

Published: November 29, 2012

Speaking as someone from an old Southern family, I find the recent secession talk by disgruntled conservatives to be hugely amusing. Anyone who takes the idea seriously must have been dozing during history class: the Yankees settled that little question once and for all when they dragged the South back into the Union at bayonet point in 1865.

Jibbering about secession is the political equivalent of stamping your tiny foot in rage and holding your breath until you turn blue. It’s certainly as childish.
