Published: November 30, 2012

The Texas Rangers declined to tender a contract offer to catcher Geovany Soto on Friday, making him a free agent.

Soto, 29, split time between the Chicago Cubs and the Rangers last season, in which he hit a paltry .198 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI in a combined 99 games.

Over eight major league seasons, Soto is a career .248 hitter with 82 home runs and 289 RBI.

Additionally, utilityman Brandon Snyder and pitcher Jake Brigham were also not offered contracts for the 2013 season.
