Around the rinks we go (Taranto bags 100th career point, plus notes)

UAF fell 5-2 to No. 4-ranked Miami (Ohio) in a CCHA game in Fairbanks tonight, but on the upside Nanooks senior Andy Taranto forged his way into the Century Club.

Taranto's goal marked his 100th career point -- he owns 49-51--100 totals in 124 career games. He also leads UAF in goals and points this season with 6-4--10 totals in 15 games.

Speaking of Fairbanks, Minnesota State-Mankato goaltender Stephon Williams of Fairbanks tonight seized his first college shutout with 20 saves in a 3-0 win over visiting Bemidji State. The rookie is 3-3-1 with a 2.07 goals-against average and .921 save percentage.

On the pro front, goaltender Jordan Pearce of Anchorage snagged an exciting 3-2 OT win for ECHL Toledo tonight against visiting Kalamazoo. Toledo trailed 2-0 six minutes into the third period, scored the game-tying goal with one second left in regulation and prevailed in extra time. Pearce stopped 25 shots to improve to 6-1-0 with a 2.29 and .915.

For ECHL South Carolina, winger Hunter Bishop of Fairbanks had one goal and one helper in a 3-2 win over Reading. He leads the Stingrays in goals and points with 9-9--18 totals in 20 games.

And, finally, former Alaska Aces winger Scott Howes of the CHL's Allen Americans reeled off a four-point night (one goal, three helpers, nine shots on goal) in a 5-4 loss at Tulsa. Howes had a five-point night two games ago and leads the circuit in goals with 13-10--23 totals in 14 games.
