Color me confused. All the senators and representatives who signed the pledge to not raise taxes are not going to do anything on the budget problems, thus indirectly raising taxes on everybody. By working together and doing a bit of compromising, both parties could say they were voting for lower taxes by not pushing the country over the cliff.
