Reds agree to 2-year deal with Hannahan

Published: December 13, 2012

The Cincinnati Reds signed third baseman Jack Hannahan to a two-year deal on Thursday.

Hannahan was bothered by a back injury for most of last season, but appeared in 105 games for the Cleveland Indians and hit .244 with four homers and 29 RBI.

"Jack is known for being a great teammate and a clubhouse leader everywhere he's been," general manager Walt Jocketty said. "He's very good defensively and is capable of playing any infield position. We think he was the best utility player out there."

The 32-year-old becomes the latest Indian to come to Cincinnati following the three-team, nine-player deal on Tuesday which sent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo and infielder Jason Donald to the Reds.

Hannahan broke into the majors with Detroit in 2006 and is a .234 lifetime hitter over 505 games for the Tigers, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and Indians.
