I would like to thank the debate coaches of Mirror Lake, Clark and Begich middle schools and the UAA debate team for conducting a wonderful middle school debate last Saturday. Clark hosted the event and the UAA debaters judged the team debates (for those unaware, our UAA debaters are second in the nation).

The students had a great, albeit nervous, time showcasing their skills and experiencing team competition in an academic format. The students were able to debate high-profile subjects, such as the Pebble mine and predator control in Alaska. And they did so well and respectfully. Better than most adults.

Well done, debaters! This is one elective the ASD needs to hold on to.
