Wine of the week: 2005 J Schram by Schramsberg, Napa Valley

Published: December 27, 2012

This New Year's Eve, treat yourself and loved ones to a bottle of J. Schram. This is the top of the line for Schramsberg Vineyards, a Napa Valley winery specializing in sparkling wines. Vintaged, barrel-fermented and aged six years in their hand-carved cellars, this bottling is an international player. It regularly competes against the top champagnes and sparkling wines of the world. Look for the toasty, fresh-baked bread character found only in great sparkling wines. This is a function of time spent aging on the lees and takes years to develop. Cheers and happy New Year. Costs about $100.
