Not addressed in the article of Dec. 22 titled “Washington fiscal fiasco perplexes employers” is the fact that a bill to extend Bush era tax cuts permanently for everyone making up to $250,000 was passed by the Senate last July. Former Speaker Pelosi has been circulating a petition on the floor of the House to bring this bill to extend the middle class tax cuts up for a vote but it has not gathered enough GOP supporters.
All talk of “fiscal cliffs,” sequestration, grand bargains and debt ceilings aside, one thing Rep. Young can do right now to protect the tax cuts for 98 percent or more of his constituents is pressure Speaker Boehner to bring this bill up for a vote. All the confusing rhetoric aside, this is a very simple fix for the imminent tax increases that will result in an average of $2,200 per year for the vast majority of Americans.
Please write or call Rep. Young’s office and urge him to support a vote on this very important legislation.
