Lafranchise makes AHL debut

Published: January 4, 2013

Erstwhile Alaska Aces defenseman Kane Lafranchise made his American Hockey League debut tonight, skating for the Oklahoma City Barons in a 5-2 road loss against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Lafranchise, loaned to the Edmonton Oilers' affiliate earlier this week, was -1, which doesn't seem so bad when you realize future NHL defenseman Justin Schultz of OK City was -4 and OK City forwards Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall, both NHLers, were -3. (Of course, Schultz, the former Wisconsin blueliner, did rack his 18th goal, which gives him a ridiculous 46 points in 33 games this season as a rookie).

In any event, good on Lafranchise for making it to the next level, no matter how long his stay lasts.
