Big Friday night for former Alaska Aces defenseman Russ Sinkewich, who the ECHL club traded to Gwinnett last month for forward Chris Clackson.
Sinkewich tonight assisted on the game-tying goal and scored the game winner for the Gladiators in a 3-2 win over visiting South Carolina. He was +2.
That gives Sinkewich 2-1--3 totals and a +4 rating in 10 games for Gwinnett, where -- at least judging by scoring summaries, which of course don't tell the whole story -- he appears to be getting more of an offensive opportunity. For instance, Sinkewich in those 10 games has launched 23 shots on goal -- and at least one in every game -- after firing 35 shots on goal in his 23 games with the Aces this season. For Alaska, he was 0-4--4 and +5 in 23 games.
From the hockey-is-a-small-world department, South Carolina's goals came from former Aces center Chris Langkow, and one of them came off an assist for former UAA defenseman Luka Vidmar. Also in the game for South Carolina was forward Hunter Bishop of Fairbanks, and, remember, the Stingrays are coached by former Seawolves forward Spencer Carbery.
Also in the ECHL tonight, Toledo goaltender Jordan Pearce of Anchorage bagged his second shutout of the season with a 2-0 win at Kalamazoo. Pearce, who is 10-5-0 with a 2.65 goals-against average and .905 save percentage, stopped 35 shots.
