WASILLA — A man who fired a rifle and narrowly missed another man during a fight near Wasilla late Thursday is charged with attempted murder. Chugiak resident Timothy Willson, 33, got into a fight with another man, Jason Bay, in the driveway of a Twilight Drive home, south of Wasilla off Knik Goose Bay Road, according to charges filed in court by an Alaska State Trooper. Bay told troopers he tried to drive away when Willson pounded on his Chevrolet Equinox, but the SUV became stuck in a snow-filled ditch, the charges say.
Bay told troopers he was there to pick up his girlfriends child, though its unclear from the charges why the child was at the Twilight Drive home or if there was some dispute over the child.
As the altercation continued, Willson opened Bays door, reached inside and grabbed and punched Bay, who, he told troopers later, owed him $40. Willsons friend joined in and also punched Bay, Bay told the troopers.
Willson then produced a rifle and pointed it at Bay, the charges say. Bay pushed the barrel of the rifle away from him just as Willson fired a round. The round entered the dash of the vehicle, missing Bay by only inches.
Willson, his friend and his girlfriend left in a red Chevrolet Suburban, the charges say. With the help of Anchorage police officers, troopers found and pulled over the Suburban on the Glenn Highway near Eklutna.
Willson is charged with attempted murder and assault and jailed in Palmer, according to court records.
