Boys prep hockey

West 2, Chugiak 2

West and Chugiak battled to a 2-2 tie Thursday night in a Cook Inlet Conference hockey game at Ben Boeke.

West led 1-0 after Alex Bardsley's first period goal, but Chugiak tied it in the second period with Kris Tomazevic's goal.

Chugiak claimed a 2-1 lead 31 seconds into the third period on Taylor Garner's goal, but West answered four minutes later to force overtime.

Chugiak got off three shots on goal in the extra period and West had two. Goaltenders Joe Chekan of West and Matt Bennett of Chugiak each recorded 14 saves.

In nonconference action Thursday in Fairbanks, South buried Lathrop 9-0 and West Valley blanked Service 7-0.

 

Girls prep hockey

Service-East triumphs

Amy Brassard and Katy Martin scored goals Thursday to carry Service-East past Dimond-West 2-0 in a girls hockey game at Ben Boeke.

 

Prep wrestling

South 3-0 in quad

The South Wolverines picked up three wins in three tries Thursday in a quad wrestling meet at South featuring South, East, Eagle River and Bartlett.

South beat each of its opponents, beating Bartlett and Eagle River handily and pulling out a 50-33 win over East. East won both of its duals against Eagle River and Bartlett, and Bartlett avoided a shutout by edging Eagle River 33-31 in their meeting.

Prep bowling

Dudley’s 239 leads

Ryan Dudley of Bartlett and Kailey Pritchard of Dimond rolled the high games Thursday in Anchorage high school bowling competition at Eagle River Bowl.

Dudley led the boys with a 239 and Pritchard topped the girls with a 228. Pritchard had the day’s third highest score, trailing only Dudley and her brother Andrew Pritchard, who rolled a 231.

The closest match was between the East and Chugiak boys, with East prevailing 18-17. Chugiak took the first game by a total pinfall of 778 to 774, but East took the second game 822 to 813 for a total pinfall advantage of 1,596 to 1,591.
