In its first game in 34 days, UAF came back from a seriously long holiday break to rack a 5-4 win at Michigan tonight, with Matt Friese of Wasilla contributing one goal and one assist for his first college points.
The Nanooks improved to 7-8-4 overall and 5-7-3 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, where they sit seventh among 11 teams.
The victory also snapped a seven-game slide (0-5-2) the Nanooks carried out of the break.
Also on the CCHA front, Notre Dame goaltender Steve Summerhays of Anchorage bagged his third shutout of the season in a 1-0 win at Michigan State. Summerhays made 30 saves to improve to 13-5-0 with a 1.53 goals-against average and .938 save percentage. His Fighting Irish are ranked No. 2 in the nation.
And Colorado College senior captain William Rapuzzi of Anchorage scored a goal in a 4-3 win at North Dakota. That gives Rapuzzi a team-leading 12 goals in 23 games, which also ties his career high -- he scored 12 in 43 games as a sophomore. With 12-15--27 totals, Rapuzzi has already set a career high for points.
