It was encouraging to read Gov. Parnell’s Op Ed piece in Sunday’s paper (Jan. 6) where he lays out solid guiding principles for proposed new legislation that would bring about reasonable, productive oil tax reform for our state.
I appreciate his attention to the fairness principle for all Alaskans, the attention he’s placed on supporting new production and not just rewarding exploration, for keeping the proposed new legislation simple to understand and drafting legislation that will give long-term stability to our taxing policies.
If we want a sustainable, growing economy for Alaska, we must address the decline in oil going through the pipeline and realistic opportunities we might have for increasing that production. I feel that the principles the governor has outlined and his commitment to working together with the Legislature will bring about the tax reform we so desperately need.
