Kudos to Kate Troll for writing an insightful compass article (Jan. 10) about our commissioner of Natural Resources ignoring the importance of fisheries in his discussion of Alaska’s resource development.
Of course this administration’s position makes perfect sense when viewed from their perspective. After they turn the Pebble Mine developers loose, let Shell stumble around in the Arctic and approve a few more coal mines there most likely won’t be any fish or offshore wildlife left to worry about, let alone a viable fisheries industry. Why should they waste time talking about resources that won’t exist in the future?
