Gomez to meet with Sharks

Posted on January 19, 2013

ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports veteran NHL center Scott Gomez will meet with the San Jose Sharks this weekend.

Here's why the Sharks would make sense for Gomez, who was bought out by the Montreal Canadiens and is an unrestricted free agent: The Sharks are the on the West Coast, and getting away from the East Coast, where he has played his entire NHL career, is a fresh start for Gomez; the Sharks could use a playmaking third-line center who can log power play time; and San Jose's associate head coach is Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Robinson, Gomez's former coach in New Jersey.

Gomez has often spoke glowingly of Robinson.

San Jose sounds like a great place to rejuvenate Gomez's career.
