Letter: A little common sense needed in debate over gun control

Published: January 20, 2013

As a hunter and Vietnam veteran, I feel that people who think that banning assault weapons and large magazines is the “first step” to taking all guns away are examples of those who need their names on the “mentally unstable” list for gun background check. Paranoia is a symptom of poor mental health. The Constitution allows for gun ownership and the Supreme Court has ruled that we can own handguns. Thus, no one will lose their guns. Nevertheless, bazookas and shoulder launched Stinger missiles, weapons made for the military, are not allowed for public use. Neither should assault weapons and large magazines, also made for the military, be allowed for public use. We must use some common sense to maintain a civil society.
