Among those participating in Monday's presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C.: The Utuqqagmiut dancers from Wainwright.

The group has appeared around Alaska, including at the annual Alaska Federation of Natives convention, but this was the first trip outside the state for most members of the group, member Ellen Ahmaogak said on the inauguration website.

According to the Arctic Sounder:

The Utuqqagmiut dancers, descendants of the people of the Utukok River, revived the dance tradition in 1990, using dance and song to tell the stories of their lives and the ones who came before them. They represent many, many generations of community tradition.

The group left the North Slope village on Friday, and were expected to stay in Washington nearly a week, the Sounder reported.
