Being the political chameleon that he is, Sen. Begich is running for cover trying to repackage himself as a warmed-over flag-waving, pork-barrel, red-necked gun-toting Republican.
First, he conveniently parrots the gun lobby’s argument that the problem is a bunch of crazies, that guns have nothing to do with it, and that we should do something about dealing with mental health as if mental health has been one of his historical concerns. Now he warns us not to “jump to the clamor of emotion” as if people should not get emotional when their children get mass-murdered in the schools. Would he get emotional and maybe change his tune if it happened to his own child?
