Tustumena 200 trail looks to be in good shape

Published: January 23, 2013

— This winter's weather on the Kenai Peninsula has been all over the place, but officials of the Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race say that hasn't hurt trail conditions.

T200 president and race director Tami Murray says the trail is in good shape. She says workers have been busy packing it down to help keep it from melting and prepare it for the Feb. 2 race start.

The Peninsula Clarion (http://is.gd/xYoJuO) reports that 37 competitors have signed up for the Kasilof-to-Homer and back again race, which is capped at 40. The race is offering an increased purse this year of $25,000, which will be split among the top 10 finishers. Last year's T200 purse was $10,000, but Murray says the race was able recover through several fundraising events.
