A man was killed in a single vehicle crash on the Seward Highway near McHugh Creek Wednesday afternoon, according to Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters.
"Looks like the vehicle went off the road and hit a rock," said troopers' spokeswoman Megan Peters.
The driver was traveling northbound in a Hummer and was at a point on the highway where it makes a large curve, Peters said. The vehicle did not follow the curve and instead went straight, headed off the road on the mountain side and hit the rock, she said.
A call reporting the accident, at Milepost 111, came in at around 4 p.m. she said. Peters said troopers were not releasing the identity of the driver until next of kin could be notified.
The highway was closed for close to an hour.
