Former Aces winger Howes back in AHL goal column

Posted on January 23, 2013

Former Alaska Aces winger Scott Howes, who spent most of last season in the AHL, tonight scored his first goal of this season in that circuit one step below the NHL.

Howes struck for the Springfield Falcons in a 4-2 win at Albany. He was playing in his third game for the Falcons after putting up 11-11--22 totals in 49 games for AHL Bridgeport last season.

Even though Howes hasn't played a game for the CHL's Allen Americans since New Year's Eve, he's still tied for fourth on that circuit in goals with 21-14--35 totals in 22 games, and his 10 power-play goals still leads the league. Everyone above him in total goals in that league has played at least 16 more games than Howes.

Howes was the 2011 ECHL Kelly Cup MVP after helping the Aces to the second Cup in franchise history.

Also in AHL game news, erstwhile Aces defenseman Kane Lafranchise was -1 for Oklahoma City in a 5-4 shootout loss at Grand Rapids.
