Anchorage — South 3, Dimond 1
South held Dimond scoreless through two periods Saturday night en route to a 3-1 Cook Inlet Conference hockey victory that makes the Wolverines the top seed in the CIC tournament that begins Monday.
Ben Simpson turned back 38 shots to spark South, which fired 26 shots at Dimond's Jordan Macmillan.
Jonathan Weston opened the scoring for South with a second-period power-play goal. Twenty seconds later, Daniel Haider scored to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead.
Dimond made it a one-goal game with 13:08 left in the third period on Tyler Garcia's power-play strike. South protected the lead for nearly 12 minutes before Steven Orizotti's goal provided insurance with 74 seconds left.
Chugiak 3, Eagle River 2
Chugiak rode a pair of second-period power-play goals to a 3-2 CIC win over Eagle River at the McDonald Center.
The game was knotted 1-1 after first period goals by Chugiak's Kris Tomazevic and Eagle River's Brett Wood. Chugiak took a 2-1 lead on Tomazevic's second goal with 9:57 left in the second period, but Eagle River answered quickly with Wood's second goal with 8:30 left.
Adam Groendyke supplied the game-winner for Chugiak with 7:15 left. The game was scoreless after that.
Pauline Tufi and Kendra Robbins each scored two goals and Kalista Curry recorded 23 Saturday to power the Dimond-West girls hockey team past South-Bartlett 7-0 in CIC action at Ben Boeke Ice Arena.
Brandi Miller, Leandra Murray and Miryea Herman also contributed goals for the winners, who fired 26 shots at South-Bartlett goalkeeper Tamare Bill.
