If you look at any picture of the mountain also known as McKinley, it's clear that the right name is Denali, the "Great One."

Like Sen. Lisa Murkowski and other Alaska lawmakers before here, we have nothing against President William McKinley, an Ohioan felled by an assassin, or against his memory. But his name doesn't belong on this mountain. The tallest mountain in North America was well named by some of the oldest residents of North America long ago.

We'd bet most Alaskans -- and most of the climbers who have tried the mountain -- would call it Denali.
