Anchorage police say a vehicle struck and killed a man Wednesday night at the intersection of Gambell Street and 15th Avenue.

Officers closed the intersection to traffic after the collision, which occurred just before 6 p.m., police spokeswoman Dani Myren said. Few details were available shortly after the collision, Myren said.

It was not immediately clear where the man was standing in relation to traffic or what type of vehicle struck him, Myren said. Officers and medics declared the man dead soon after arriving at the scene, she said.
