A bunch of Alaska-connected dudes are on the move

Posted on January 31, 2013

The Blog's been fightin' a cold this week -- and mostly losin' -- so he got a little back-logged, but here are some Alaska-connected guys on the move.

Former UAA and Colorado College winger Eric Walsky of Anchorage is moving from Geneve-Servette to Lugano in the Swiss league, evidently on a three-year deal beginning next season, according to eliteprospects.com

Speaking of CC boys, goaltender Drew O'Connell of Anchorage, who was helping out the ECHL's Ontario Reign -- including a win over the Alaska Aces -- is back in Anchorage. Know it cuz I saw him at CC's practice here today at Sullivan Arena.

Former UAA defenseman Nils Backstrom is moving from Timra to AIK in his native Swedish Elite League.

Former UAF defenseman Joe Sova, who didn't make the trip here last week with the ECHL's San Francisco Bulls, is headed to ECHL Reading via AHL Charlotte.

And, according to Chris Heisenberg's excellent recruiting site, looks like UAF has received commitments from Conor Deal of Anchorage, who plays for NAHL Kenai River (4-8--12 in 39 games) and Brandon Morley, who owns 4-12--16 totals for a couple of teams in the BCHL. Judging from hometowns, looks like Brandon is related to current Nanook freshman Tyler Morely, who leads them in goals with nine. We're gonna guess they're brothers.
