Letter: Why rush a cruise ship bill?

Published: February 2, 2013

Re: “Parnell’s plan would loosen rules for cruise ship waste”, ADN, Jan. 24.

Upon watching Gavel to Gavel on KAKM TV, I learned through public testimony that even though all the science isn’t in yet there seems to be a big rush in getting this bill passed. As per testimony, because cruise lines customarily plan in advance using a two-year window, not passing this bill now will not impact the current year. There are many logistical questions that need answers before informed decisions can be made. The one question that kept cropping up was, “What’s the big hurry?”
