NHL rescinds match penalty to Backes

Published: February 2, 2013

The National Hockey League announced on Saturday it has rescinded the match penalty given to St. Louis Blues forward David Backes.

Backes was hit with a major and match penalty for intent to injure in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, when it appeared he made contact to the head of Detroit defenseman Kent Huskins just after the midway point of the third period.

Pavel Datsyuk ended up scoring the game-winning goal on the resulting 5-minute power play.

However, upon further review, no such contact was revealed.
