The UAA men's basketball team got a good outcome Saturday night. The Seawolves just didn't look good getting it.

The Seawolves eked out a 73-72 win over Northwest Nazarene to grab sole possession of third place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

They squandered most of a six-point lead in the final 63 seconds at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex, securing the win at the buzzer when Kevin Rima missed the potential go-winner for the Crusaders.

"We probably played our worst game of the year, but I thought our effort really improved after halftime," said UAA head coach Rusty Osborne. "In the end, we did just enough things to hold on against an opponent that deserves a lot of credit."

Liam Gibcus and Teancum Stafford scored 17 points apiece for UAA (14-5 overall, 7-4 GNAC), but Stafford twice made costly mistakes down the stretch.

He fouled sophomore Grayson Moore while Moore was shooting a 3-pointer from the baseline, and Moore sank all three free throws to cut UAA's lead to 73-72 with 17 seconds left.

Then he lost the ball on a steal by Jordan Nicholes. Rima drew a foul with 11 seconds left but was unable to hit either free throw.

The Crusaders got the ball back when UAA's Abebe Demissie missed a free throw, but Rima's last-second shot bounced away.

It the second straight one-point loss for Northwest Nazarene (9-10, 3-8). It was the sixth win in seven games for UAA. The victory clinches a winning record for the eighth straight season for UAA and Osborne, who is in his ninth season as head coach.

Kyle Fossman chipped in 15 points for UAA, all of them in the second half.

Reserve guard Jordan Nicholes scored 17 points and starting point guard Kenny Jones had 14 points, seven assists and four steals for the Crusaders.

The Seawolves trailed 42-38 at intermission after ending the first half on a 7-0 run. They opened the second half with five straight points from Fossman to claim a 43-42 advantage.
