As pointed out in the recent Daily News article, we are losing a young Anchorage student to suicide at a rate of one every 10 days or so. With this information, the School District has decided to eliminate many school counselors, those who serve as critical gatekeepers to our youth in crises.

I hope our city’s leaders can sleep well at night. The families and friends of the victims are not.
