Rockies acquire Brignac from Rays

Published: February 14, 2013

The Colorado Rockies have acquired infielder Reid Brignac from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash considerations and a player to be named later.

Brignac batted just .095 in 16 games with the Rays last season. The 27-year- old spent most of the year with Triple-A Durham, where he hit .231 with eight homers and 46 RBI in 99 games.

Originally a second-round pick in the 2004 draft, Brignac is a career .227 hitter with 10 homers and 67 RBI in 256 career games with the Rays.

Colorado also placed pitcher Edwar Cabrera on the 60-day disabled list with a left shoulder impingement.
