Anchorage police are seeking help from the public in identifying a man found dead alongside Campbell Airstrip Road on Tuesday.

People walking by noticed the man's body just off the road not far from the Anchorage Fire Department's Station 14 and called 911 at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, police spokeswoman Dani Myren said. The man was not carrying a driver's license or identification card, Myren said. It was unclear from early police reports if he had a wallet, she said.

A medical examiner made a ruling on the cause of the man's death but police are not releasing it, Myren said, nor are they saying if foul play is suspected. An investigation into the death continues, she said.

"At this time, we just want public's help in identifying him," she said.

Police describe the man as in his late 30s or early 40s, about 5 foot 10 and 240 pounds, with a muscular build. He has close-cropped, curly brown hair, brown eyes and a "medium-dark" complexion, according to a written statement from police. The man has a thin mustache, a small patch of hair under his lower lip and multiple tattoos, police said. He was found wearing a gray jacket with a blue hood and police think he might have ties to Hawaii.

Myren would not say what connects the man to Hawaii and declined to describe his tattoos.
