Letter: Mayor’s union-busting tactic will lower standards for city workers

Published: February 15, 2013

Our mayor doesn’t like unions or fair collective bargaining. He begrudges the workman his wage and respect. He is a bully, starting this round of negotiations with an ordinance to preclude any leverage for the people who work for all of us. This is a “my way or the highway,” union-busting tactic and any who work for wages should stand up and be counted against this outrage.

What will become of the working class if you let this son of privilege, given a great education, make Anchorage a place where the city employees are drawn from the minimally qualified, who can’t wait to leave. Let collective bargaining work and keep our standards high. Remember, you get what you pay for.
