Letter: Tap PFD to support schools

Published: February 16, 2013

With the Permanent Fund value over $43 billion, why is there no money for schools? We all get a dividend (free money just for living here), so let’s help our best resource, our children.

I propose that a new line be added to the PFD application: “School district you live in.” Then we take $100 from every dividend paid out and it goes to that school district. This means that if 300,000 live in your school district, your schools get an extra $30 million. If your district has 2,000, your schools get an extra $200,000.

It’s good for the schools, it’s good for the students, and basically it’s good for everybody in the state. Nothing beats a good education.
