The San Diego Padres signed pitcher Clayton Richard to a one-year contract on Saturday.
Richard started 33 games for San Diego in 2012, posting a 14-14 record with a 3.99 earned run average and 107 strikeouts over 218 2/3 innings.
Over parts of five seasons with the White Sox and Padres, the 29-year-old southpaw has gone 44-42 with a 4.13 ERA in 135 games, including 118 starts.
