— Police say a 26-year-old Anchorage man was shot and killed early Monday morning in Fairview.

Investigators had made no arrests in the killing of Purdy Alston as of Monday afternoon, said department spokeswoman Dani Myren.

The shooting was reported at 1:19 a.m. on the 1000 block of East 20th Avenue, Myren said. Alston was taken to a local hospital, where he died sometime after 3:45 a.m., she said.

Citing the ongoing investigation, Myren refused to talk about details of the case. She would not say if Alston was discovered in a home or outdoors.

The investigation Monday appeared to focus on two apartment buildings at 1029 and 1033 E. 20th Ave., where police peppered the snow between the apartments with yellow evidence markers.

A man who lives in an upstairs unit in 1029 E. 20th said he heard gunshots while watching television late at night. He looked out his window to see three people running around the corner of the building, he said.

Alston listed an East 9th Avenue address on voter registration rolls. He would have turned 27 on March 5, according to public records.
