Man died outside in South Anchorage alley, police say

Published: February 20, 2013

Police say there were no immediate signs of foul play in the death of a man whose body was found outside Wednesday morning in South Anchorage.

Someone taking out trash noticed the body of Michael George O'Conner, 63, lying in an alley behind Silver Fox Lane, near Huffman Road and the Old Seward Highway, police spokeswoman Dani Myren said. The person called 911 about 10:20 a.m., Myren said.

Police officers checked for signs of life and called in a detective, Myren said.

"It looks like he was quickly identified as deceased," she said. "There were no obvious injuries that would've resulted in his death."

Police said in a written statement that O'Conner lived nearby and appeared to have been walking when he collapsed in the alley.

A medical examiner will make a ruling on the official cause of O'Conner's death, Myren said.
