Highlights of the 2013-14 Anchorage School District budget:
• $720.1 million
• $25 million shortfall from what it would have cost to continue services at the same level as the previous year
• Calls for eliminating about 200 jobs, including 90 positions that were vacated this school year
• About $7 million from a reserve fund will help reduce the shortfall
• Calls for protecting classroom teachers, but paring classroom support staff like counselors, teaching assistants, bilingual tutors
• Majority of funding comes from state, which is not expected to increase; next biggest chunk is from local property taxes
