Michigan State 1, UAF 0

Published: February 22, 2013

Despite being outshot nearly 37-14, Michigan State generated a 1-0 road victory against UAF tonight in Fairbanks, using junior Will Yanakeff's first shutout this season and Greg Wolfe's first-period goal to flourish.

The Nanooks remain sixth in the 11-team CCHA, five points up on Lake Superior State and six up on Bowling Green, both of which also lost at home tonight. UAF has just one league game remaining -- Saturday's series finale with the Spartans -- while Lake Soo and BG each have three league games left. That means both teams still can leapfrog the Nanooks because CCHA victories in regulation or OT are worth three points.

Still, the 6-7-8 finishers in the CCHA host first-round playoff series.

Michigan State true sophomore winger Tanner Sorenson of Anchorage didn't have a shot on goal tonight, but had an even rating. He's second in goals for the Spartans and tied for fourth in points with 10-6--16 totals in 33 games.
